LENS IMPLANT SURGERY
Lens implant surgery corrects vision by replacing the eye’s existing lens or by adding another lens to help redirect focus.
The lenses used in lens implant surgery are made from biologically compatible materials.
Lens implants offer a permanent solution and depending on the lens type chosen, they may completely eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses.
The two types of lens implants surgery performed at Clearsight Eye and Laser Centre include ICL (implantable contact lens) surgery, which involves implanting a soft contact lens within the eye and Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), which involves the removal of the eye’s natural lens and replacement with a new synthetic lens.
Is lens implant surgery suitable for me?
- May not be suitable for laser eye surgery
- Lens implant surgery may be suitable if you have a prescription too high for laser eye surgery
- For people who have Presbyopia as an issue (an age-related decline in near vision)
Types of lens implant surgery
Implantable Contact Lens
(ICL)
ICL (implantable contact lens) is a contact lens implanted inside the eye, over the exsiting lens, leaving the natural lens in place.
ICL offers a reversible option and is used for higher corrections, or for those not suitable for laser eye surgery.
Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
RLE (refractive lens exchange) is most suitable for age-related vision loss or where laser eye surgery is not appropriate.
RLE replaces the natural eye lens with a permanent monofocal, multifocal or extended depth of focus (EOF) lens.
