Dry eye is increasingly common with up to 1 in 5 people affected. Many different symptoms can be produced by dry eye including the eyes feeling sore, tired, heavy, and/or having a foreign body sensation – a feeling like there is something in the eye when there is not. Dry eye can also make the eyes appear red.
A variety of treatments are available for dry eye. The treatment for dry eye will depend largely on the specific cause and initial management involves assessment of the features of the dry eye to tailor the treatments.
In certain cases, a disease may be the underlying cause of the dry eye and in such circumstances the underlying disease will need to be treated.
